8. Technical and Scientific advice on conservation and restoration of records.

9. Organize exhibitions on record and affiliated activities.

10. Produce documents in Courts and giving evidence on request.

11. Research on Sri Lanka history.

12. Conduct lectures on archives and records management and conservation.

13. Prepare publications on professional themes.

14. Issue license to export books and records pertaining to Sri Lanka

KELANIYA RAJA MAHA VIHARAY

The Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara is one of the most sacred worshipping places of the Buddhists of Sri Lanka since it is a site made hallowed by the visit of Lord Buddha. In the past Kelaniya itself was a large city and the Kelani Raja Maha Viharaya was one of the largest and one of the most beautiful temples of Sri Lanka.Situated about six miles from Colombo, set within a sacred area of around ten acres, the Kelani Vihara stands beside the Kelani river as evidence of a Buddhist tradition in this country.

The spot on which this vihara stands derived its sanctity in the Buddhist era 2531, with the third visit of the Buddha to this country. He hallowed this ground by His visit accompanied by 500 Arahants.

The fact that the Buddha visited the spot on a Wesak day on the invitation of King Maniakkhika is given in the historic epics of Sri Lanka.

Fifty people can stay at once in the Wiharamahadewi rest room.It will charge Rs. 1500.00 for one night.You should get the permission for the rest room,calling to Mr.Kamal Samaraweera,who is incharge of the rest room.

COLOMBO NATIONAL MUSEUM

Formerly known as the Colombo Museum, the Colombo National Museum was instituted on the 1st of January in 1877 by Sir William Henry Gregory. Built on the lines of Italian architecture, the magnificent edifice of the museum reflects the architectural splendor of the ancient times.

The museum is closed on Fridays and government holidays.

It is opened at 9.00am to 05.00pm.

Viharamahadevi Park

Viharamahadevi Park

The Viharamahadevi Park is a public park located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is situated in front of the colonial style Town Hall building. The park is named after the mother of King Dutugamunu, Viharamahadevi. The park was built during the British rule of Sri Lanka, and was originally named "Victoria Park" after Queen Victoria. The park features include a huge Buddha statue and a series of water fountains. It also includes a mini zoo, and a children's play area.

The Viharamahadevi Park is the only large scale public park in Colombo, and is maintained by the Municipal Council of Colombo.

The Department functioned under the purview of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights during the year.
• The department improves the network of meteorological stations in conformity with World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements.
• It improves the network of agro meteorological stations with collaboration of other interested organizations.
• It improves the network of rain gauge stations with the voluntary cooperation of interested organizations and individuals.
• And also it improves the meteorological telecommunication network.
• It establishes a network of lightning detectors for severe thunderstorm warning.
• It improves weather forecasts and TV weather presentations.
• Conducts awareness programmes on climate change and related issues for the benefit of teachers, students, relevant government officials, NGOs and the general public.
• Takes a leading role in natural disaster preparedness, mitigation and prevention.
• Conducts research on climate change and related issues.
You can visit this department after getting permissions on weekdays except Wednesdays.There, you can visit the balloons which send to sky for weather researches.
